Admission Arrangements for Heartsease Primary Academy

We have two intakes into the Reception classes each year in September and can accept a maximum of 60 pupils. Children start school in the year in which they are five years old. The Reception admissions are handled centrally by Norfolk County Council and you will need to complete and return your admission form (usually by the end of January) detailing your school preferences.

Admissions for Nursery and other year groups are handled directly by the school, in line with Norfolk Admissions Policy. Admission forms for nursery, reception and other year groups are available at the school, please feel free to pop in and pick one up and book an appointment for a tour of the school.

If you are offered a place at the school, our Pastoral Manager will work with you and your child to ensure a smooth transition to Heartsease and make sure your child settles into their class as quickly as possible.

If you have any concerns about how they will cope, or feel they are not settling in as quickly as you would have expected, please do talk to us so we can discuss this with the teachers and work out a programme of additional support for your child.

General admission information for September 2024/25

The admission round for entry to reception classes for the School Year 2024/25 opens on 25 September 2023 and closes on 14 January 2024.

When does a child start school?

  • If your child was born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020, they are due to start school in reception class in the school year starting September 2024 and are entitled to a full-time place.
  • Parents are entitled to defer their child’s admission or request that their child attend on a part-time basis. By law, children must start statutory education full-time no later than the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday.

Important

  • You must make an application for a reception class place, even if your child currently attends a nursery class at the same school. However, attendance at a nursery attached to a school, does not normally give you any priority for a place at that school.
